Summer Reading

What is Summer Reading? Summer Parties
Our Summer Reading program at the Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library is an incentive to keep kids reading while school is out of session. Children can sign up by writing their name and phone number and receiving a reader number and reading log. Every week the children check in and we record how many books they have read. They receive a raffle ticket for checking in and they can use it to select one of 7 prizes. They also receive a raffle ticket when they find the hidden object in the room. Every Monday we draw for the prizes and call the winning participants. Prizes can be picked up at the Children's Desk. We have prizes for all ages, so please even if you have an infant and you are reading to him/her, feel free to participate! Happy Reading!! During Summer Reading we host a parties to celebrate the different parts of our Summer Reading programs. Our Kick-Off Party is always the first Saturday after school is over. This year it will be Saturday, June 23, 2018.

  • Kick-Off Party - Saturday, June 23, 2018 - Preschool of Rock will be here to teach us about music. Sign up today!
  • Half-Way Party - Saturday, July 21, 2018 - The Juggling Hoffmans will be here to perform and we will have carnival style games and crafts.
  • End Party - Saturday, August 18, 2018 - Music by Caryn Lin will be here with her electric violin. There will be fun games and crafts all morning long.
Special Summer Programs Teen Summer Reading
In the summer we like to host special programs for our young patrons. Don't miss out on the Lizard Guy, a dino dig, vermicomposting, technology take apart, and much more! Check out our calender for days and times. Teens will have their own registration with the Youth Services Department and receive prizes just for them.
