TAX-AIDE
Get Help with Free Tax Assistance
Since 1968, AARP Foundation Tax-Aide has provided free tax help to over 75 million taxpayers, with a focus on older adults with low to moderate income. The program is free and doesn't require AARP membership. Tax-Aide volunteers are located nationwide, and are trained and IRS-certified every year to make sure they know about and understand the latest changes and additions to the tax code.
In-person assistance will be available at MAPL starting February 7, 2024
Trained Tax-Aide volunteers will be available at Matawan-Aberdeen Library on Wednesdays and Fridays from February 7th through April 10th (excluding Good Friday) by appointment only.

All appointments at Matawan-Aberdeen Public Library are currently taken. Click here to use AARP's tax-aide site locator.
Although MAPL only offers daytime appointments on Wednesdays and Fridays, weekend appointments at other locations in Monmouth County may be available by going to the AARP Monmouth County website and clicking on the Operating Schedule.
Appointments outside of Monmouth County can be made at the National AARP Foundation website.
If you are MARRIED FILING JOINTLY, both spouses SHOULD be present for the appointment. Regardless, however, BOTH spouses are required to sign their joint return, although not necessarily simultaneously.
PREPARE IN ADVANCE OF YOUR VISIT
You can’t just walk in empty-handed or — even worse — with a shoebox full of receipts. Be prepared and you can complete your tax preparation in one visit.
Two things To Do Before Arriving At Your Appointment
- Review the 'List of items to bring to your appointment'.
- Complete the Intake Questionnaire & Preparation Packet in advance by doing one of the following:
- Download it in advance, print it, fill it out, and bring it to your appointment.
- Stop by the library in advance of your appointment and pick up a printed copy, fill it out and bring it to your appointment.
